The emigration of the Vodden's from the 1600's to present.

At present, my research still centers around Devon & Cornwall in the south of England with the family going back to the mid-1600's.  However, Vodden's emigrated to the New World, Canada and the United States, in the late 1800's.  An uncle came to Canada as part of the Home Boys' program in the 1930's and while I was born in South Wales, UK, I emigrated to Canada with my parents in the 1950's.
The spelling of the family name was changed in the 1700's from VAWDEN to its present spelling of VODDEN possibly due to the Devon dialect and hearing V-A-W-D-E-N as V-O-double D-E-N.  There are other variations of the spellings too, Vowden, Bowden, Bawden, Voden, Voddon, and even possibly to Baldwin.

North Devon parishes
